Welcome! Please browse this section for my course requirements, list of experiences, and documents from the University of St. Thomas, School of Education.
My name is Bao Xiong and I graduated May 2009 with a B.A. in Elementary Education and Social Studies (5-8). I also graduated with a B.A. in Geography. In a few years I intend to enter graduate school for a masters program and possibly work my way towards a licensure in ELL.
Education has always been important to me and my family history. I have always loved school, especially during my elementary years. What defines me as a teacher is my own love and appreciation for learning. Not only is it important to teach skills and share knowledge that is necessary for later in life, it is important that we learn social skills and moral values. When I do something, I intend to do it well and to the best of my ability. That is a part of who I am and my philosophy in teaching.
Teachers should be role models; they should represent what it is that students hope to achieve and more. They are the guidance, the bridge and support for growth and reflection.
I was inspired by many of my teachers who genuinely loved what they were doing and who went above and beyond what is required of their job in order for students like myself to succeed. These were the same teachers who looked at things differently, weren't afraid to take risks and never gave up on me.

"One does not start out teaching in possession of all the fully developed qualities of a fine teacher. With experience and self-knowledge, these qualities grow and ripen; and after having felt intimidated by the demands of teaching and often discouraged by the dimensions and responsibilities of the work, one can come close to mastering its challenges and become a teacher in the fullest sense of the word.." -- James M. Banner Jr & Harold C. Cannon Elements of Teaching
